The production of Cinderella was entertaining for the entire family. Dancers told the Brothers Grimm fairy tale using the original score by Sergei Prokofiev.
From the evil stepmother and jealous sisters to Fairy Godmother and Jester, not a detail was left out. The dancing was so eloquent, I didn’t miss the words at all. And bravo on the costumes – they were phenomenal!
Perhaps my favorite scene of the evening were the countless young Cinderellas in the audience, twirling around in their ball gowns during intermission.
The cast included over eighty youth dancers from the Tri-County area. The choreography was perfect. Jonathan Tabbert, Artistic Director/Resident Choreographer, is the Co-Founder/Director of the Palmetto City Ballet School.
Palmetto City Ballet strives to offer the greater Charleston area a variety of quality ballet productions. Next up for the Ballet is the popular “Ballet Uncorked” series. Audience members are able to interact with the artists in talk-back sessions throughout the performance. It’s exciting to learn about the creative process and inspiration directly from the creators and artists.
This season will wrap up with “Piano Barre Cabaret”. Dancers will interact with live accompaniment from musicians and vocalists, presenting a true cabaret style production.
Even if you’re not a staunch supporter of the Arts, everyone will certainly enjoy the entertainment Palmetto City Ballet provides. I look forward to future performances!
